About the Artwork:
‘Sefer Torah at the Kotel’ highlights the Sefer Torah being held open and read to the backdrop of the Western Wall. Gitty Fuchs uses 6 layers of acrylic paint to build beautiful texture, creating this layered original work. For thousands of years, Jews pray to return in unity and holiness to our homeland Jerusalem. She encapsulates this dream, transporting the viewer to experience the poignant scene which can be seen at the holy site in celebrations and festivals today. The Hebrew letters written in the torah scroll read the start of the Torah “Bereishit”. The artist does not explicitly spell the name of God in the artwork to allow for it to be hung anywhere and not considered a sacred article.
