Avi Ben Simchon uses his signature inverse collage technique in the creation of ‘Asleep in the snow. The beautiful woman is depicted with her eyes closed to the backdrop of falling snow, her textured hair in its natural curl, she wears a red patterned cardigan over a bright yellow dress peeking through. Her peaceful expression in rest exudes a sense of feminine elegance and calming energy.  Avi uses his revolutionary inverse collage process in this piece, painting using a special absorbing material he created on top of mixed media on Steinbach paper, before adding color back to the textured piece with oil paint. The result is an outstanding portrait of colors and texture with every single brushstroke. Inspired by cubism and fauvism, Avi communicates layers of emotion in his depiction of various women, setting a mood through their raw stances and expression.
