‘Lead the Way’ is one of Joel Amit’s most well-known artworks. The piece showcases an array of colorful birds that shape themselves into a great wave or gust of wind. The work is composed using his signature laser-cut metal technique, on a lacquered wood board. He constructs hundreds of birds in various sizes and shapes creating magnificent movement that takes viewers breath away in its depth. This series draws its inspiration from nature as well as from the computerized world and the doors it opens for artistic creation. Joel finds the ironic process of forming steel, a heavy and cold material, into such delicate forms of life such as the birds in ‘Lead the way’ to be an essential dimension to his work, provoking not just breathtaking imagery but thought and discussion.
