About the Artwork:
‘Flying Star of David’ showcases the timeless Star of David, being made up of countless small birds flocking in motion. The work is composed of laser-cut metal pieces on lacquered wood board, giving it variation and a dynamic that draws the observer’s eye across the artwork.This series draws its inspiration from nature as well as from the computerized world and the doors it opens for artistic creation. Joel finds the ironic process of forming steel, a heavy and cold material, into such delicate forms of life such as the birds in ‘Flying star of David’ to be an essential dimension to his work, provoking not just breathtaking imagery but layers of added meaning.
